Fun Fact Friday ~ Does This Calf Look Sick?

Fun Fact Friday ~ Does This Calf Look Sick?

Picture 1. Is this calf sick?
Picture 2. Is this calf sick?
Today I have a challenge for you.
Which calf is sick, 1 or 2?

Can you tell????

Proper cattle care is one of our responsibilities at the Circle L Ranch. We have to recognize sick cattle so that we can ensure our animals’ well-being. It is critical to the success of our animals and operation. We work with our local veterinarian to ensure that we treat our sick calves with the right medicine and at the right dosage.

So how can we tell if our cattle are sick?

Drooping Ears. Calves that are sick will sometimes have drooping ears.

Lack of appetite. Calves that are sick don't eat as much as they should.

Running Nose, Diarrhea, and a Cough may also be signs of sickness.

These are just some of the more common signs of sickness or unusual health issues in cattle.

What is your guess? Picture 1 or Picture 2?

The answer is picture 1.  This calf's ear were drooping. He had a cough and just didn't look as thrifty as the other calves around him. My Cowboy and I doctored him with a prescription medication from our vet. The next day his ears were both up and he was running around the pasture with his friends.

Happy Fun Fact Friday from the Circle L!
